The theory that the workforce was divided into three groups representing “North”, “West” and South” has been handed down over the centuries – there was no “East”. The actual meaning of these groups is not known.
The Rotation Principle:
This division of the workforce was oriented to the side of the pyramid they were working on.
The stonemasons were always working on one side, smoothing the external cladding stones, this meant that that the workers who would normally be working on that side were now free to haul the blocks for the East side - in line with the principle of rotation.
